"Don't
go through life, grow through life." - Eric Butterworth
What could you do to
improve yourself? Well, let’s step one step backward. The first question might
be: Why should you even bother improving yourself? And I think that the answer
to that is something like so you don’t suffer anymore stupidly than you have
to. And maybe so others don’t have either. It’s something like that. You know,
there is a real adjunction at the bottom of it. It’s not some casual self-help
doctrine, it’s that if you don’t organize yourself properly: you will pay for
it! And in a big way.
Every one of us is unique and fantastic in his/her way, but
it happens that we forget this. It is easy to get stuck into a certain idea of
what it means to be perfect and have a perfect life. Instead of finding worth
in who we are, we compare ourselves to others and thereby only see what we are
missing.
Have you ever felt like you are not good enough? Or that
everyone else is better, prettier, smarter, cooler, and stronger than you? Do
you sometimes struggle with finding out what you’re good at, what you’re passionate
about, what your powers are?
Personal growth is a solution to these issues. This is not
only about growing yourself, but just as much about growing your appreciation
for yourself and growing your self-esteem. Putting time and effort into your
personal growth is the best thing you can do for yourself.
How to Grow Yourself
Personal growth is a long journey it does not happen overnight
it happens slowly and deliberately. Personal development is not easy but now it
will be. Here are a few great activities you can engage in:
Exercise: The
body and the mind are linked together, there is a saying that “A healthy body
is a key to a healthy mind”. And we can keep our body healthy by doing exercises.
Anything from a walk or 10 minutes of yoga to a running or a 100 km bike ride
works. Just move, and do it regularly.
Experience
new things and places: Find new places, Find new peoples from
different backgrounds from different cultures, understand their cultures, experience
new things, learn new skills. Push your
limits, the further you move beyond your comfort zone, the stronger and more
relaxed you will feel with life. You will realize that you can handle a lot
more than you thought
Journal: Write
down your desires, prepare your wish list. Write down your thoughts your
feelings every day. It will help you to notice that what are those things that
are holding you back and help you reflect upon your experiences. Add a little
gratitude to your writing, and you’ll feel happier and have clearer thoughts in
no time.
Set
Goals: Think about the goals you want to achieve (big
or small) write them down and find ways to achieve them. When we achieve our
goal that achievement boosts our confidence. The bigger the goal, the bigger
the confidence boost.
Contribute: Helping
others doing something for others will make you see how much you have to offer.
When we help others, we are paid back in the “currency” of smiles, thank you,
hugs, gratitude, and sense of purpose.
Love
yourself: Circumstances change, friends come and go, and the future
is unpredictable. Get yourself out. Continue the journey with yourself. Read books,
take ice cream go to the art museum, spend time chasing the dreams not peoples,
understand the love. Come crazy about yourself, believe yourself, you are the
single someone who is never going to cheat on you. Strengthen what makes you
unique, find what brings you joy, explore all your interests, and challenge all
your fears. That will give you the most fulfilling life you can have.
Be yourself; everyone else is already taken – Oscar
Wilde
If you do these activities every day (or at least regularly,
you are well on your way to reach greater confidence, courage, and happiness.
But you need to stay committed. Growth doesn’t happen overnight. It requires
time and effort.
